Greasy Reputation? or One of the most succesful companies in America?

McDonald’s Restaurant? Everybody knows what that is. The multi-billion fast food chain has become one of the most known things throughout the world within the last half of twentieth century. Like mentioned in the video Big Mac: Inside the McDonald’s Empire , this famous restaurant is “part of the American landscape”. It brings in enormous revenue and employs thousands of people across United States.

For homework number three, we were assigned to write about the key opportunities and challenges this fast food chain has to face. It is a well-known topic, but not really explored enough in everyday life. We always tend to hear things like “in a McDonald’s near you” but we don’t really realize that there are so many of these restaurants out there that it’s part of the everyday geography.

First, I’d like to start off with the challenges this giant has to face. The biggest one is what competition, which at the same time is also one of the most important and, from a  customer’s point of view, aspect. KFC, Burger King, Wendy’s, Taco Bell are all major fast food chains that compete with McDonald’s.  Like mentioned in the video, when Kroc’s company moved into China, KFC was already there for three years. Another thing is the ever changing aspect of taste in American society, and adapting to it. McDonald’s has its army of chefs, which are responsible for developing new products on the restaurant’s menu. Another huge challenge they have to face is obesity and  health issues that the US society is currently struggling with. When someone talks about being overweight, McDonald’s is usually the first thing that comes to one’s. It’s this “greasy” reputation that this restaurant has around it, that pushes some people away from it.

^tThis short trailer is about a guy who ate McDonald’s delicious food for a month and what exactly happen to him and his health.

However, despite all these challenges, and the reputation of being partially responsible for the obesity in the Western world, McDonald’s restaurant has many opportunities in front of it as well. The growing economies of countries like China, Brazil or India are great places for McDonald’s business to boom. Even though the chain has already over thirty thousand stores overseas in 118 countries, there is still much profit to be made. I also think that if directed right this company has a chance to stive out in the world market for a long time. If I was to change one thing about it, I’d add more healthy things, like different salads and snacks, especially for kids.

  1. Hey, I really enjoyed your blog and the way you put it together. The way you worked in the link was very smooth and added great strength to your blog. I also like the way you were able to add the trailer to Super Size Me into this blog that definitely made all the points you made much more affective. I completely agree with your point about how there are so many McDonalds scattered around the United States one doesn't even stop for a second to realize how it has become apart of our geography. From McDonalds standpoint id say thats a pretty impressive accomplishment on their part. Another part of your blog that I enjoyed was in your third paragraph where you listed out all the competitors they face and still manage to stay on top. Seeing all these names together in one sentence really makes what they are able to accomplish even more impressive.
