In 2012 supermarkets are forced to use high technology and individualizing the customer experience in order to get customers to buy more and trying to tailor specific deals to customers who are in the store. Stores have their greatest opportunity to influence what a customer will buy by offering them deals on the food while they are in the store and making them think that it is really cheap so they have to buy it. Supermarkets have a lot of different techniques that they can use in order to catch the customer’s eye and get them to buy. They use techniques ranging from where they place the food on the rack, to moving food around the store, to lowering the price on something that might be going bad, to giving customers deals as they are walking through the store. All of these techniques serve a different purpose but I think the most effective out of all of them is putting the goods that people get the most in the furthest corner of the store. This forces people to walk all the way down the aisle and they are going to notice other foods so if u put other good food along the aisle than they are going to want to purchase those foods as well, thus bringing more income for the store. I believe that these techniques are definitely ethical because all they are doing is tempting people to buy more food but they aren’t forcing anybody to buy anything. If somebody can resist the temptation to buy the new food than they don’t even need to worry about it. Supermarkets are considerably better at getting customers to buy new things that they wouldn’t normally buy. By pricing the high volume products slightly higher and the low volume products lower than people are driven to try something that they wouldn’t normally try because it is so cheap. If it wasn’t as cheap than they could easily skip over it but since it is so cheap than the peoples eyes are driven towards it and they are more willing to try it because of how cheap it is. All of these techniques work well and everybody seems to buy it more.

  1. Nick, this is an interesting post. I totally agreed that you said the marketing using techniques to range the place to putting food at the perfect place for customs. And I do think that techniques is really important for a supermarket to organized, they need to do data and calculated the best solution for proving the marketing sales, and the combo more productions. making all the marginal products become needs, and that's the goal. I really like you post, I totally agreed what you said.
