The Hangout supermarkets

After watching the video on supermarkets I have picked up on some techniques to become a bette shopper. Before watching this I was un aware of some of the tricks and strategies used to entice a shopper. Many of these new innovative shops are popping up all over the country. Near my house in Philadelphia they have just built a new Whole Foods. When I went in there I could not believe it, it was remarkable they had a place to eat and get whatever you wanted to eat. It was all fresh and made to your specific wants and needs. They had a bar in the store that allowed you to have a few beers and sample anything you wanted. This I feel is an extremely good business strategy for husbands that do not like to walk around the grocery store and shop.
In 2012 supermarkets need to have a bunch of little things to combine as a bigger picture to attract customers. The four P’s are extremely crucial in the attraction of customers. Supermarket stores need to have stress free and friendly environments. They need to make themselves the better store and have customers rather buy from their store then others. They can influence this buy doing many things. They offer free samples, strategic isle set up, placement on shelves, and with the new age of Wegmans and Whole foods make it a place you want to be which would help them sell more product. Supermarkets use a handful of physiological strategies to make a profit. Common items like milk, bread, and cheese are placed in spots where you need to walk past lots of items. They do this to hopefully let you buy more items. They also use coupons as a influencer. Supermarkets now are extremely good at influencing costumers then in the past. This is because they have to be. Stores used to be smaller and had that friendly everyone knows your name feel where you they would coach you through buying items. Since stores are now extremely large they need to use product placement and price as key influencers.

  1. This blog post was very well written. I agree with you that the video helped me become a better shopper. I went to my local grocery store the other day and really payed attention to the formation and placement of everything. After reading about you Whole Foods grocery store I was shocked. I also think that it is really convenient that they are putting things like Sushi bars, and places to sit down to eat and drink inside of grocery stores. The more a store has to offer the more appealing it is to a customer. Free samples, isle formation, and product placement are also great ways to get a customers attention. It is important that grocery stores follow the four p's because this keeps the store organized and helps the product sell. There are so many grocery stores that it all comes down to price and which stores better. You have to fight to be the best by adding things that are appealing to people.
