Nick Van Winter

When watching the Coca-Cola clip I learned a lot of things about marketing and marketing to certain groups of people.  One of the first things that I really noticed and one that definitely stuck out the most to me would have to be when Coke changed their recipe for the first time.  They had such a majorly negative reaction and everyone was calling and writing to them about how mad they were that Coke had changed the flavor and one woman even called crying saying that Coke had ruined her childhood.  They quickly realized their mistake and realized that the Coke flavor was more than just a soda to people.  They had been so successful that the Coke flavor was an instrumental part of peoples lives and they couldn’t just go changing that.  They also realized that they had to completely redefine how they marketed the soda to people.  They didn’t want to be constantly changing the look and appearance of what they did because they wanted people to just see a little part and to instantly recognize it as a Coke ad.  Another thing that stood out to me was how much Coke marketing has gone global.  They have reached everybody in every corner of the world and for some people they are their source of a livelihood in places where a livelihood is very hard to come by.  Another thing that I don’t think they broadcast enough to people is that they not only ship their product to everybody who wants it but they actually build factories in those areas so that they are not shipping their product a long way they are just putting it on a truck and bringing it to their customers.  Another marketing thing that I thought was very intelligent of them was implementing one of the most notable characters in the world and making it so that when people think of Santa Clause they also think of Coke.  This was a very interesting clip that we watched and I thought it was a lot more interesting than any of the other clips that we have watched.
