Olivia Fay Small Business Owner Interview

  1. Olivia,
I also interview a company that chose to be a Limited Liability Company. " A limited liability company is similar to an S corporation but without special eligibility requirements (p 126). " Advantages of LLC's are limited liabilities with personal assets that are protected, choice in taxation, flexible ownership rules, flexible distribution of profits and losses, and operating flexibility. David was an Entrepreneur by leaving his father business to start his own. David took a risk and from his company today it seems like it was worth it. It is great to see his company offers many types of products and services. With the housing economy where it is today it is great that he offers so many different service to earn income. Mr. Vitkus’ most recent success is a great accomplishment to build a community for people over the age of 55 with all handicap accessories. Advertising in small companies is always a problem. Is the risk spending all the money to advertise worth the profit you will bring in? It may be a win-win situation or a loss. Points that I found interesting were that David put his family first to reside his business in the town where his family is from. Family is always number one. He will be able to work as well spend time with his family. Mr. Vitkus and Mr. LeBlanc have the same morals to employees. " The most important part of my job was to make sure he hired the most skilled and organized people he could. Also to hire people you trust and are close to you ( Vitkus)." David has much experience with construction from working with his father. All the small details he has learned help his start his own business in the world of a trade. I agree that it is much easier to start up your own company when you have been working by your father’s side in the past. David ventured out to start his own business and became successful. I’m sure his father is proud of him for becoming independent with a trade he loves but at the same time disappointed because either may loose customers from each other. They now compete against one and other, father against son.

  2. Olivia, I like your interview topic. It' really local to Nichols college, which is at Dudley MA, and as you did, email is the one of the best way to do an interview of a small business owner. the business has been running for over 8 years, which is a really successful business, and their products and service is to all the people. The company has really strong family background, and you said they had some successful progress, and I agree that you said the most important part is hiring the skilled workers. thank you for sharing with me.
