Big Mac

After viewing CNBC’s Big Mac: Inside the McDonald’s Empire, discuss the key challenges and opportunities that you think McDonald’s faces.

After watching Big Mac: Inside the McDonald’s Empire, it is clear that McDonald’s like any other big business faces many challenges and obstacles. McDonald’s has always been known for its French fries and hamburger’s, but they have decided to add a few new items to the menu. With obesity being such a huge issue in America and other countries many critics are saying that McDonald’s isn’t helping the problem. After getting complaints they added healthier food like fresh salads, apples, and snack wraps to their menu.

Since McDonald’s is a fast food industry there is only so much they can do to make their food healthier. Even though they are adding healthy food to the menu it doesn’t necessarily mean people will buy it. In my opinion McDonalds isn’t worried about obesity because all of their advertisements still emphasize the fatty foods like burgers and fries. I think they just added the healthy foods to make their restaurant look better, and now their customers have more options to choose from. As long as they are still making money selling the fatty foods they don’t care what people are buying. It is also the customer’s choice to decide what they are eating, and what their kids are eating. Anything in moderation is fine but if you’re eating it every night that’s when it becomes an issue.

For the most part McDonald’s is extremely successful. It originated in 1955, and is now one of the largest fast food industries. It started out being a small hamburger shop selling burgers for 15 cents. Now it spread all the way to 119 other countries. People are always on the go, and fast food is very convenient for busy people. Adding coffee and breakfast to the menu was a very good idea because it will definitely attract more customers especially because there coffee is much cheaper then Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts. Ronald McDonald was a brilliant idea for bringing in business because young kids love him. In the video it stated that Ronald McDonald is second to Santa Claus. McDonalds industry is a very smart and I think that even with a little controversy it will always be successful.

  1. This is really good Erika. I agree with you 100% because you make really good points. When you said just cause their adding healthy food to the money doesn’t mean people will buy it cause they really wont. They want what taste good and to them that’s the fatty foods. They also really don’t care what people buy as long as they make the money they need.
