The Golden Arches

Living in a capitalist society company that can manufacture a low cost, efficient, product can be successful. As we discussed in class the United States has become a primarily capitalist dominant society. And no company fits better into a society like this than McDonalds. In today’s culture McDonalds is a house hold name that every single American citizen knows. The golden arches are a figure we see in our everyday lives.
McDonalds has master the concept of capitalism and perfected it so the organization has become the king of the fast food empire. The key to McDonalds success is the low cost, good tasting, food they make. Things like the dollar menu, value fry, and Big Mac are things the empire is known for. McDonalds has Thousands of restaurants all over the globe almost every country if not all have the golden arches located somewhere on their streets.
With a Franchise this big McDonalds faces many challenges each and every day. One of their biggest challenges they face is criticism from consumers about the nutrition content of their food. McDonalds is notorious for having fatty, unhealthy foods. Everyone knows that McDonalds is terrible for your health. Like they said in the film a Big Mac, fries, and a large drink is over 1000 calories. A lot of people also point fingers at McDonalds for obesity in America. People blame the food for this and they argue that serving food this unhealthy is immoral. Yet what is overlooked is that McDonalds is a billion dollar business. They don’t care what they serve them just want to make money. It is up to every individual person what they want to eat on a day to day basis. So if they choose McDonalds then it is no one but their own fault. McDonalds also tries to solve this problem by adding healthier foods to the menu.
Some of the key opportunities that they have taken advantage of are expansion, like I said earlier McDonalds is EVERYWHERE. They are constantly growing getting bigger every day. McDonalds is sitting pretty right now, the only real worry they have is customer satisfaction. As long as they keep doing what they’re doing then I don’t ever see the world without McDonalds.
